So tonight Rus met me straight from work and we jumped in a taxi with Bonnie from the office and went to Soho and Central. We were shown around 5 apartments and were torn between two. one with a lovely kitchen and bathroom but not so great view and one in the thick of it but with a dire bathroom. Think 70's beige with peach - with matching shower curtain. We decided on the nice bathroom considering how sweaty we both are (yes, imagine humid heat and my nice new fringe = microphone head). Ah well - we wait and see, tomorrow my office will confirm the apartment and then we'll move in soon(ish).
Work is ok - the computer i'm on keeps on typing in chinese, which is a bit confusing and the system is slow but no worse than the UK office. Just trying to figure out where different accounts are as i don't have that great a knowledge of APAC but we're getting there. Tomorrow is the girl's last day who I am taking over from, so next week will be the baptism of fire. Tonight we ate in Taco Loco - I know, not very chinese but seriously, I got taken out for lunch with work yesterday and me + chopsticks = humiliation. I've learnt my lesson and do the 'fork' around large groups of people and attack the chopsticks in smaller more personal groups. I'm giving it a go.
Oh yes, and yesterday evening on leaving the office, I walked into what I thought was the corridor by the lifts but actually, it was a very clean glass door. Small bruise on forehead (covered by fringe) and dignity dented a little - check out you tube just in case there's a hidden camera in reception. Will add more at the weekend, the surroundings are amazing and I look forward to getting settled in an apartment and for the Business Partner event (which takes up some of my sunday this weekend and some evenings next week) is over.
Love to all my lovely family & friends. Will be back soon!

ReplyDeleteGood to hear that you've settled into work OK
ReplyDeleteShame about the locality, but I suppose someone's gotta do it. I'm all green over here in the snow reading about high humidity.
Take care and write soon.

ReplyDeleteOnly a bit?
Today I answered the phone "hello" and a voice on the other end said "why?", so I said.. "hello" again - and the other voice went "why...." I tried it another couple of times and got the same response then handed the phone over to my neighbour.
ReplyDelete"Why" is hello in cantonese. i've been learning mandorin. Ah well, you win some, you lose some....
