sleepy saturday

Hi everyone
Today Rus woke up bright and early just before 8am. However, I tempted him back to bed for a little snuggle and we drifted off into a super deep sleep and woke up gone 2pm. That was a 16 hour sleep for Rus and Ems! We did manage to leave the hotel around 3:45 where we took the mtr to Sheung Wan (end of the Island line) and we had the lomography (plastic 35mm camera shop) as our destination.
We found the shop, the girls helped me with my camera (had an issue with loading the film) and I bought 9 rolls of film to keep me going during our stay, although we will be going back to the shop (Gem, Clare - let me know if you want anything).
After pounding the streets we jumped back on the mtr and stopped off at Central. I wanted to get some pictures of the streets and we got lost along the way, as Rus keeps on reminding me, I took us out of the wrong exit at the mtr. Even after Rus telling me which one to leave by. However, i've always been pig ignorant but our little detour bought us out by a Pacific Coffee and next to the peak tram. So we know where it is for next time.
We found Soho ok and did the tourist thing - I got out the video camera and Rus took lots of pics of the buildings. Followed by a very cultural Pizza Express for dinner.
It's been a humid day today so I have my big hair on and Rus has his shiny head. We look good.
Its now 10:30pm and we're sat at the starbucks around the corner from the hotel. Tomorrow I have to be at the Harbour Plaza hotel in Kowloon to prepare some training i'll be giving the Chinese Account Managers on Monday. Will we sleep tonight, is the question I keep asking myself. Find out tomorrow....... Love Em n Rus x

Friday night - a joint blog!

busy day today - i managed to trip up an escalator, get lost on the mtr (tube network) miss my floor in the lift, tried to negotiate a mug of hot water (to add my teabag to) and ended up with a black coffee, the receptionist and a chinese chap all trying to figure out how I did it... ooh, and I managed to do a full days work.
pretty knackered actually, but rus has taken me out for a chocolatey, creamy calorific starbucks on the way back for a chilled evening which is much needed after yesterdays galavanting around.
The humidity has dropped a bit, so my top lip is not glistening today :o)

Over to Rus......

I've had a mosey day today, had a bit of an ache in my achilles so didn't want to push it, the hills in central are brutal but i look forwrd to them getting rid of my lardy belly :). Took some pics of the harbour from the outside pool area on the 3rd floor of the hotel, had a dip, sauna and steam!!.....apart from that just went to Wan Chai this morning on the MTR and sauntered around north point this afternoon. Em got home around 7 and has got a huge week next week with the APAC sales thing so i won't be seeing a lot of her. So were gonna be chilling at least till sunday afternoon when she begins again. Reckon i'll be headed for Kowloon in the new territories next week. Tuesday we're due to be moving into the apartment in central and so i'll probably be getting that sorted as Em will be over in Kowloon at the conference. By the way, the new flat is right next door to hong kong park and therefore the Massive Aviary (Note to Sandy) so i'll be over there getting lots of pics from next week!!....there's loads of bars and nightlife handy too (note to Andrew) ;)

The Emma entry...... yes I got round to it eventually....

So tonight Rus met me straight from work and we jumped in a taxi with Bonnie from the office and went to Soho and Central. We were shown around 5 apartments and were torn between two. one with a lovely kitchen and bathroom but not so great view and one in the thick of it but with a dire bathroom. Think 70's beige with peach - with matching shower curtain. We decided on the nice bathroom considering how sweaty we both are (yes, imagine humid heat and my nice new fringe = microphone head). Ah well - we wait and see, tomorrow my office will confirm the apartment and then we'll move in soon(ish).
Work is ok - the computer i'm on keeps on typing in chinese, which is a bit confusing and the system is slow but no worse than the UK office. Just trying to figure out where different accounts are as i don't have that great a knowledge of APAC but we're getting there. Tomorrow is the girl's last day who I am taking over from, so next week will be the baptism of fire. Tonight we ate in Taco Loco - I know, not very chinese but seriously, I got taken out for lunch with work yesterday and me + chopsticks = humiliation. I've learnt my lesson and do the 'fork' around large groups of people and attack the chopsticks in smaller more personal groups. I'm giving it a go.
Oh yes, and yesterday evening on leaving the office, I walked into what I thought was the corridor by the lifts but actually, it was a very clean glass door. Small bruise on forehead (covered by fringe) and dignity dented a little - check out you tube just in case there's a hidden camera in reception. Will add more at the weekend, the surroundings are amazing and I look forward to getting settled in an apartment and for the Business Partner event (which takes up some of my sunday this weekend and some evenings next week) is over.
Love to all my lovely family & friends. Will be back soon!

Mobile Phones

I was looking around fortress hill just to see what kind of shops there were while waiting for Em to finish up at work, and whether there was anywhere i could get us a couple of mobile phones for us to use to keep in touch with each other while here, Luckily i found a really small place where a guy was selling new and used ones. I managed to get 2 brand new nokia's, with pay as you go sims and credit for around £40. He even completely set them up for us!!!. He also had blackberry's etc brand new for around £170 as well. In the evening me an Em took a walk down to Causeway Bay and just milled around taking photo's etc. Our first night out together here. Tomorrow evening we look at 2 posh apartments in the central and Soho area's. So were now connected as far as phones are concerned, and by the look of it will be sorted into a permanent place by the weekend although we can hardly grumble with the hotel.

Orientation

Day 2:
Emma was up and out early (Well, about 10am), to meet everyone at the Hong Kong office.
I left the hotel and walked around finally ending up in times square for a while and then zipping down to central on the MTR for a look around. Tried to set up some wifi but credit card failed!!. We did expect this, have to phone the bank to let then know the card hasn't been stolen and that we are indeed in Hong Kong. Although Emma did phone them before we left to let them know :). Sat in a Starbucks writing this without a connection at this time, I actually had to get the MTR back to the hotel to get passport numbers too, as you can't sign up for wifi without them. I'm sure we'll get there eventually. Great place though. As you can see we now have a connection, Pics soon, Rus

Arrival!!!

Day 1:

Well we have now arrived in Hong Kong!!!

Everything here is massive!!!....after finally managing to find our driver at the airport we were shown to a chauffer driven air conditioned Mercedes Benz for our transfer to the hotel.
On our arrival at the hotel our booking was confirmed but the hotel hadn't been informed the room would be paid on account, and so we were asked for our credit card to secure the room :0. This was soon rectified though and soon we were able to have a nice shower and freshen up. We met up with one of Emma's workmates in the evening and ate at a chinese restaurant in Hong Kong's times square. After this we walked around checking out the full lit causeway Bay area before getting a taxi to a bar on one of the pier's on the waterfront in Central for a drink and to look at the skyscrapers!!...awesome.
After being awake for around 30 hours we were ready for bed.
Incidentally, you can get from one end of the island to the other for around £4 by taxi, and the buses, trams and MTR are even cheaper!!
